Mike Heier’s interest in Western Canadian independence stretches back more than four decades. Since the 1980s, he has participated in movements seeking greater political and economic independence for Western Canada, including the Republic of Western Canada and later sovereignty efforts around 2018–2019.

Before entering business, Mike served in the Canadian military’s infantry during the Cold War. He credits that experience with teaching him to stand up for people who cannot stand up for themselves and to fight for a cause without expecting personal reward.

Throughout his career, Mike founded multiple companies and, at times, managed two ventures simultaneously. His journey included both achievements and setbacks, which he regards as necessary sources of genuine knowledge and growth.

Although his political views have evolved over time, Mike describes himself as a centrist. His case for Alberta is rooted not in party politics but in fairness, accountable government, productive freedom, and the courage to distinguish right from wrong.
